Ok, I'm sure everyone know's I'm a newbie by now, if not I'll say it again. I'm a newbie at everything. I have a JVC GR D90U camcorder and I was trying to play a video on the program Sonic DigitalMedia LE and it stated that it could not read the device connected. Is there some sort of connection that I need for this? I have a USB port for the camera. Is there some device that other people use to record stuff on their computer and put on DVD? I have older videos that I want to put on my computer too, but I know that camcorder is ancient and wouldn't work, but I know there has to be a way to put it on my computer and then burn it on a dvd. What does everyone else do?

You need a video capture device. Shouldn't run you more than $70 or so for a decent one. Then just use your Sonic program, and you should be in business!

I'm pretty sure that the USB port is only for capturing still images. To transfer video, you'll need to connect it via firewire. If your mobo doesn't have a firewire port, you can buy a cheap PCI expansion card for only a few dollars.

First off the USB will capture the videos just fine, especially the generation 2 USB. Firewire is just the stardard that most digital video cameras use.
Second, Firewire is the Apple equivalent to USB is a connection medium for multimedia and other devices to computers. Third, a PCI card would just go in where your sound card and other stuff is, and it allows a non-Firewire computer to then have that capability. Finally, the video capture devices will work with any RCA signal, and some will even work with the old coaxial format. The compatability depends more on the capture device that you have vs the VCR that you have.
