I have heard of installing linux on iPods. That would change the interface on the actual ipod some. I dnt know much about it. Google it.

A really good one is mediamonkey (www.mediamonkey.com). It supports iPods and does practucally everything as far as music librarys are concerned

You can use Winamp to load music onto her ipod. You of course need the correct pluggin.

A PSP of course is not nearly as convenient as a small mp3 player if all you want to do is listen to music.
