Unhappy Norton Problem - mail server was interrupted

I hope you can help, for some reason, my MS Outlook 2003 will not send mail. I get the following message from norton:

unable to be sent because the connection to your mail server was interrupted please open email client and resend the message from the sent messages folder

If I try to 'resend the message from the sent messages folder' I just end up back in the same loop with Norton.

Any ideas why this would happen? It all worked fine and no changes have been made to my PC hardware of software wise.

I have tried to disable norton and resend, but the error still appears.

However, very intermittently, when i do try and resend, the mail will sometimes come through about 10 - 20 mins later. So sometimes its finding a way out.

Any Ideas??

do you have any firewalls that could be blocking the mail ports?

Not that I can see.

the problem seem to lie with the way Norton scans the files.
