Reinstall windows? Not yet. There could be more awnsers to this problem. But, a reinstall may be nessesary.

I have just put it into the secondry ide port but the problem still persists
I have also tryed a different cable....no luck

I really dont want to format yet, what else? the jumpers and bios is set correctly.

Nothing else is on the cable, just the DVD rewriter.

What Mobo do you have? Also, what is the jumpers on the drive set at? Power cable in the drive OK? Maybe try a different molex?

my mobo is a MSI P4N Diamond, the jumpers are set to master. I will try a different molex now.

Awwww, i was hoping you had an Asus P5ND2-SLI deluxe, then we would of had identical systems.

BTW, did you just put you mobo in your sig? Im sure it wasnt there when i asked about your mobo lol

OMG this is sooo annoying grr
i tryed a new molex no luck

I am considering getting a new mobo now... this one: Asus P5N32-SLi Deluxe

Another thing that this pc does is like freeze at the bios where it says MSI etc etc

Anything possibly else?

Well if you were getting a new mobo, then you would have to format your HDD, so that could be a thing to try.

Inspect all the pins on the drive & mobo, make sure they arnt bent. Is it only with DVDs?

Yeah ONLY DVD movies, it plays DVD data discs BUT not movies.......

The pins look fine, I bought this mobo like 2 months ago so i dunno wot is wrong.

that Asus P5N32-SLi Deluxe can have both pci express lanes run at 16x in sli :p

If theres nothing i can do then i will just format with the new mobo, this mobo is a bit unstable i think due to it freezing at the bios etc.

Make sure all your codecs are up to date, and what program do you use to play your DVDs?
