how about a little more info on the laptop, in particular do you have a P4? cause they're notorious for getting hot especially i laptops, and all intels will thermal throttle when they get hot to keep from frying themselves, which will slow down the computer. I assume you've defragged and cleaned up things you don't use anymore?

A little off topic, but if your running really hot, i would reccomend getting a cooling pad for underneath the laptop, it helped by P4 laptop down from 70 C to 50 C! (I hate laptops now, grrrrrrrrr )

maybe the fan of your laptop is not working... just remember that it is normal to be hot in laptop... just give a rest.... maybe your laptop already tired....
