ok, i hooked up my speakers differently and its working. my onboard sound is supposed to support 8 audio channels. it has line in, mic, and speaker connector, and below that is where you plug in for 8 channel. i had all three connectors on the bottom 3 plugs and it wasnt working, so i swithced it to the one for stereo speakers and it works now, so no harm done.
