Default RAM upgrade question

Hey everybody! I'm running 2x256mb to of course make 512mb in RAM. However I just purchased a 1GB stick of ram and I wanted to add it on to one stick of the 256mb to make 1256GB of ram. I heard that my machine may experience some difficulty if I try this? I was wondering if this was true and what problems I would experience. My laptop can withstand 2GB of ram if that helps anyway.

the only thing you really need to think about is the ram speed, the sticks will run at whichever stick has the lower frequency, so if the 256 is much slower than the 1gig, you might be better off with just the gig in and nothing else, but check frequency

Sure not a problem with the link. I ordered directly frm Dell (yes I know I proabably got screwed) because I have an Inspiron 8600.

it seems that the ram will work at regular speeds, as they probably installed pc 2700 before selling it to you so all should be good. that should be a nice performance boost for your pc

Wow that makes me feel 110% better I was worried there for a day after I ordered it but now it feels like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders. Of course the RAM is now like 10% off AFTER I bought it but whatever lol. Thanks for all the help again!
