try this

insert the xp cd rom into the drive (supposing you have one)

boot of the cd into the windows XP setup. and when asked press "R" for repair.

when you go into a black screen with white writing, it will ask which partition you want to fix. select it, and in the flashy dash thingy type "FIXBOOT" and also "CHKDSK" ok. and that should sort your problem.

it might work with the cdrom in the drive while booting to the hard drive, but i think it means you have to keep it in to boot into windows everytime.
