Question DirectX 9.0 Graphics Error...

Background Information (unsure of it’s relevancy): About six months ago I contacted HP to verify my intended video card purchase would be suitable for my HP computer. They confirmed that it would be suited for the PC so I purchased the card, GE Force FX 5500. Not more than a week later when I was playing a game the video card blew out (believe it overheated).

Anyway - I haven’t played the game since then until just recently, when I try to load to the game I get the following error: "Failed to find any DirectX 9.0c compatible graphics adapters in this system! Please make sure you have a DirectX 9.0c compatible graphics adapter and have installed the latest drivers provided by the manufacturer. The application will now terminate."

When I contacted HP about this all they could do was verify I had DirectX 9.0 (I do) and tell me to bring it to a service center, which I’d like to avoid since the computer is now a week expired of its warranty. I’m trying to figure out what the problem would be without the hassle of dealing with HP….Any ideas?

You didn't specify(or I misread), but do you get another video card after the 5500 died, or just went back to onboard?

If you're trying with onboard, you probably just don't have the capabilities with that card. Seeing as you can upgrade, see about getting another AGP card...
