Hey all. i was considering getting a 7800gtx 256 or a 7800gtx 512mb. i dont know if theres a huge difference. but then i heard about the 7900 series. do you think itd be a good idea to wait for that new series since its relatively close? all opinions welcome =].

First off, there is a huge difference between a 256MB and a 512MB. 512MB is better for most purposes, worse in terms of power consumption and heat output. As for the 7900, since it's not out yet, I'd say go ahead with the 7800. The 7900 has not been tested or reviewed yet, so you don't know if it's worth the money.

You might also want to consider the X1900XT. http://www.gamespot.com/pages/unions...&union_id=3092
Better performance than the GTX 256MB, without the killer price of the GTX 512MB
