streaming from external hard drive

hello,
I was wondering if anyone new the procedure for setting up an external hard drive to stream media files from it into the main hard drive to play them on windows mediaplayer? I have a Maxor one touch 200GB EHD and I am having trouble with this. I was able to get windows media player to pull files from the external hard drive by setting up a network between my main hard drive and the Maxor, but for some reason not all of the media files will transfer and play. I have to browse for some of them to establish the link to windows media.
