Myself, I'd stick with AVG... especially while it's still free. I heard that, once enough of us use it, they will make it subscription only. They seem to keep their database as up-to-date as anyone.

It doesnt help -- Computer guy -- that you missed out on a couple things,
1. While Norton makes a crapload of products, for better or worse, none of them are dedicated antispyware tools like Spybot and thus the implied comparison is meaningless

2. "Go Spybot S&D all the way!" but "Ad-Aware works GREAT...." -- obviously not great enough.

3. You've said that norton's products suck yet fail to provide a reason for it ... oh lemme guess "it uses too many system resources" or "it slows down your computer" right? Have a look at the following .. and this is the uber resource and system intensive Corporate Edition version too complete with components of the security suite.

At the end of the day, it helps your credibility if you avoid blanket statements.

I'm using avast at the moment... it updates frequently and its easy to configure, goes a bit over the top when it finds a virus tho(like a woman calling "virus detected, virus detected" etc etc, and a big nuclear radiation sign popping up, and the a message box comes up saying "there's no need to panic" -- sheesh!.... I used to use AVG but it's really annoying and cant detect or get rid of some virii/viruses (open 4 discussion)....

I use Norton, but of course would love something free! Is Avast as up to date as Norton when it comes to newer viruses??

Indeedy almost all AV solutions are about on par as far as regular updates go. I dont know if Avast (or anything other than Norton/Symantec) provides perimeter defence updates (i.e., 30-40 updates per day) but for mopst people thats not a concern

The best has 2 be Norton Internet Security. Most standard virsus scanners update their database every 30 days. However Norton internet security updates everyday!!

It's worth the money...every last penny!!
