If I keep the Santa Cruz soundcard installed I will try that, thanks for telling me how to do it - however, I'm concerned it may still not work because this evening I hooked the microphone into the mic jack on the Santa Cruz soundcard and I still got the same static as I received when I had it plugged into the front panel.
