Default Problem joining domain

I recently set up a small Windows 2000 domain but have been trying unsuccessfully to join computers to it.

* The domain controller is running Win2k Advanced Server SP4 w/768MB DDR & 160GB UDMA.
* The workstations are running Win2k SP4 and XP Pro SP2
* The DC is the only server on the network and is also running DNS.
* The administrative account being used to join the computers are a member of every administrator group.
* The computers I am trying to join have accounts registered in Active Directory

My last domain did not encounter this problem but I started having problems with the DC before it finally crashed due to a problem with the motherboard. The new domain name was simply a numeric increment in the domain name (from 1 to 2) .

Using one W2K SP4 workstation as a sandbox for testing this problem: When I attempt to join the computer, I get an error stating that it is unable to find a path to the server. Both the workstation and the DC are on the same class C subnet and have visibility to each other. I will note that this workstation (like all the rest) was never completely unjoined from the previous domain due to the controller not being available, but after failing to successfully join this computer, I then removed all references to the previous domain name from the registry.

The text of the error is

"The following error occurred attempting to join the domain "... ... ...2"
"The network path was not found"

Any help would be appreciated.
