Default DVD Burning...some play on DVD, some don't

So I recently got some software to burn DVD's on my DVD burner. I've got DVD Decrypter to copy actual DVD's, and use DVD Shrink to actually put it on the DVD after it is decrypted. This I have no problem with.

Now I've been burning DVDs from AVI files I have. I use WinAVI to convert the movies from AVI to DVD format. Then I use DVD Shrink to burn the video on a DVD. Half the time the movies are fine and play on my DVD player. The other half of the time, I get an error message on my DVD player (and my room mates) that says can't play dvd. It says something about being outside of the readable disc area? Just wondering if anyone had any ideas or knew of any other programs I could use that might be better. Thanks!
