Default Purchasing a new laptop

For my 18th I'm getting a new Laptop with a wireless internet connection. I'd prefer the screen to be widescreen if possible. I live in Australia. Price isn't to much of a concern yet so any and all suggestions would be welcome.

wat is you budget? just give a number or else we could recomend you a $3k laptop or even a $300. wat are you going to use it for too? are you going to be carying alot of places and want it light and long battery life?

i would recommend looking at IBM thinkpads.

Up to 2k I think would be enough.

The lighter the better, but it doesn't have to be a feather.

I'd use it just for general use, internet browsing, typing up word documents, listening to music etc.

2k is more than enough for your needs.
here some good places:
http://www-131.ibm.com/content/home/...pad/index.html <- look at the R series as its the cheapest and good for everyday things and also the Z series has the widesreen your looking for.
http://www.pcworld.com/resource/info...Laptops,00.asp <-- also has reviews which can help you decide.

I would say that if you have a 2k budget you should look for something more than an IBM Thinkpad. Thinkpads are all good and nice but your restricted pretty heavily with what you can do. For music and internet browsing they might be sufficient but if you ever got the strange sudden urge to play a game your gunna be in noville. Sony makes a very nice line of laptop and they are definatly worth looking in to. I just got a nice Vaio FS760 for $1200 (originally around $1400) and this can handle a variety of things. I can play the latest games with its GeForce 6400 and the 1.86GHz processor is nice. 100gb harddrive can easily store all your music also. Something to look in to
