Default Control Fan Speed

Hey i need some help, i use this program called Speed Fan, you can find it easily via google, anyway i can control my cpu fan just fine, but my other 3 pin fans that i have plugged into my motherboard don't register. I was wondering what type of fans i need to buy in order to be able to control them with this program. I don't really want to buy a fan with a built in temp sensor because the program is supposed to auto adjust the speed based on your various temp sensors. I've seen some fans that register the RPM's but they can't be changed with the program. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I use SpeedFan too. I can control fan speeds when the fans have two leads (=no tachometer wire) OR I can view the fans' RPM when the tach lead is present. I can't control speeds AND view fan RPM .

You can control the fan speeds using the mobo's temp sensors, via configuring the minimum temps and checking the right boxes to link the sensor to the fan you want to control. I did do some experimenting with this and when the minimum temp is reached for the sensor you've chosen, the fan linked to it will slowly ramp up to your maximum chosen speed, and stay there until your temp has dropped below your specified minimum. Then the fan speed will again drop to your specified minimum.

I am getting a new CPU fan and case fan because summer is coming and I use my machine for protein folding. That means 100% CPU use for hours at a time... but not ALL the time. I want to let SpeedFan slow the fans down when I'm surfing or burning discs. I should have the fans next week, but I already know I will have to clip, remove, or disable the tach leads to enable SpeedFan to work properly.

Not all boards allow 100% control of the fans. I beleive my old Abit KT7A would only register 2 of the fan's RPMs, but it didn't even have the capabilities to register anything else that was on the board(and yes, I was using fans that were capable of this )

Sometimes the program just doesn't work well with the motherboard. Perhaps look for something else? My averatec has the capability, I know it does, but I have no options to do so. So did my Abti AN8, but it didn't show anything up either...

well it's a brand new board for a sempron 64 socket 754 processor so that isn't it i don't think, and i can control the CPU fan's rpm's while viewing what they're at, this is what leads me to believe that the fans i have aren't the right type.

As long as you can see the RPMs and/or the fans have 3 wires, you have the right fans. I think it's just a rather minor incompatability with your board and the software...

How do you know if the fan's are cabable of being controled by the motherboard, i've seen a bunch that come with manual controls, i don't want that i just want one that can be controled by speed fan. If you could give me a link to one on newegg.com i'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks

See i don't know because i've tired other programs and none of them show the fans rpm's, and they are 3pin fans, but they were the type that had both connectors, if that makes any difference.

Any fan with three wires can be controled by the motherboard. Even two pin fans can be controlled with a separate controller. All the motherboard does is give the fans less volts so it runs slower.

Motherboard Monitor can't control the fans, but it might be your best bet to just see the speed of them...

i just tried the fanspeed and i could only control the cpu fan. Also, i just found out that the fan that came with the case was not plugged into the "fan only" connector from the power supply. Could that be the problem?
