before installing SP2 I was able to play all my movie files but since xp sp2 was installed I couldnt play some of my movie files as it would freez (Not Responding) and make me re start the PC.

So it's definitely a codec issue...
Sounds like a SP2 issue

i already have FFDSHOW installed. do u think uninstalling all other codecs as well as FFDSHOW then reinstall FFDSHOW but no other codecs?
All you need is FDDSHOW and the AC3 -- if you've got more than that then its because you have specific requirements and generally know what ur doing (i.e., en/trans-coding ... because FDDSHOW is still terrible for encodes)

Ffdshow can handle several video formats, so theoretically there's no need for other codecs.
It is important to note that it only applies to playback conditions

Default Windows XP SP2

Well, there are some ppl who says that Windows XP SP2 is giving problem. So far I think that only the boot screen change. Others I have no idea. However, some good point about Windows XP is that, you can buy get Windows firewall. This means you no need to buy new Firewall software to protect your PC. So far other problems are not realised yet.

when you buy new Windows XP SP2 software, probably, these problems couldnt be faced when you install it into your computer.

One thing that need to ask, when is microsoft going to come out SP3 to make more modification, and solve the problem faced by our end users.

Rgds
