Hello,
I use Norton Anti-virus. Upon surfing the internet a few days ago I got a message that said, "someone attempting to access your computer using a back door trojan horse" or something to that affect. It's happened several times since then. When it happens again, I will post the exact message I am getting from Norton. In the meantime, does this sound like something I should be worried about? Thanks, Joe |

yes, get a trojan remover
oh sorry, if it says attempting it doesnt matter. but you may have a trojan installed on your system, just get a trojan remover to be sure.

Hmm, nothing showing in the log. Let's see if Ewido gets anything.
Download, install, update and scan your system with the free version of Ewido Security Suite: 1. When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu". 2. When you run ewido for the first time, you will get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment. 3. From the main ewido screen, click on update in the left menu, then click the Start update button. 4. After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful"), exit Ewido and boot into safe mode: Restart your computer, and begin tapping the F8 key on your keyboard. Continue to do so until the Windows Advanced Options menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again. Using the arrow keys on the keyboard, scroll to and select the Safe mode menu item, and then press Enter. Now open Ewido, click on the Scanner button in the left menu, then click on the Start button. This scan can take quite a while to run, so time to go get a drink and a snack.... If ewido finds anything, it will pop up a notification. You can select "clean" and check the boxes "Perform action with all infections" and "Create encrypted backup" before clicking on OK. When the scan finishes, click on "Save Report". This will create a text file. Please restart normally, then paste the contents of the text file to this thread.

It tood about 2 hours to run the scan. Ewido found and repaired 79 infections. Darn...wouldn't you know it...I forgot to save the scan results.
Is running a scan in safe mode more affective than running in regular mode? Should I be doing all of my scans in safe mode, including Norton Antivirus? Thanks for the help. |

Running scans in safemode is better because only the essentials are running. How are things now?
Run Hijackthis and select "Do a system scan only", place a check by the following entries. R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = \blank.htm O2 - BHO: (no name) - {5C8B2A36-3DB1-42A4-A3CB-D426709BBFEB} - (no file) Close all open windows and browsers, and hit "Fix Checked".
