Default Windows Xp Pro Boot Screen Problems

i have a problem on another computer that seems to have only 1 solution. and that is reinstalling windows altogether. there was a large amount of spyware on the computer, so i was going to scan and try to kill all of it. i restarted the computer and now it loads to the boot screen, (blue screen that has the windows logo and says windows is not loading) it just freezes there. i dont have any ideas as to how to fix this. the max time i left it to load like this was 20 minutes. also when i hit the num lock, or caps lock keys, it takes about 6 seconds to light up, or unlight. this tells me it has just been taken over by spyware and viruses, and is too slow to even light up the keyboard lights. any ideas anyone? thank you

Specs : windows xp pro
512 ram
2.0 gig intel processor
