Default Linux server, Windows PC's?

Hey, i have xp running on my server and it is only 366mhz, so you can imagine it is very slow. I was wondering if i could run a linux based server, and keep XP on my pc's. All i plan to do with the server is for it to hold files for me. If this is possible please let me know, and if you could recommend a version of linux for me to use, i would appreciate that also. Thanks

Yep, that should definately be possible, just install samba on the linux server then it will act just like windows, as fro a linux distro maybe something like slax or dam small linux, but i'm not really too sure. Ubuntu of Mepis coudl be worth a try as they have lots of networking stuff buil;t in, but can be a bit resource hungry

edit: Is this the same server you spent hoours trying to get remote desktop working on?

i used slax. I downloaded home edition and it was a live cd, but it worked, and came with samba. I am not using it as my main OS now because i got a PIII 866mhz Its very nice, i would recommend it.
