When you say you can connect to the internet, does it go to your homepage?
And what happens when you try to go to other sites, do you get the 404 error?

i am allowed to connect to citynet but it doesn't go to the homepage and when i type in any address it just says "google.com can not be found" for example. but when i restart the computer it allows me to access the internet for a short amount of time before it starts the same problem again

Can you get on a friends computer? If you can, go on it, and get the programs you need, then come back to the other computer

Hijackthis will fit on a floppy if you''ve got one on both machines.
