Default need help getting a computer for college...

i was posting on the desktop board and i have a setup figured out, but i'm still kinda partial to getting a laptop, so here's what i'd like...

alrighty... the budget will be about $1000-$1500 and i would like a good laptop with at least 128MB of DEDICATED video memory... i like AMD's Turion Mobile Technology, and i'd like the comp to have at least 1GB of ram...

i'd also like to know if laptops are like desktops... what i mean is, is it cheaper to build one up? (by buying a barebone and adding components)

If you want the turion you obviously haven researched mobile cpu's that well. The Pentium M would be a much better choice, and it's also better on the battery.

For that price range, you should expect to get something along these line: Pentium M 1.73Ghz-2.0Ghz, 256MB GeForce Go 6xxx series, 1GB DDR2 (or 2GB if you want it), along with a few other things.

My friend may be getting a dell laptop, and he can get a GeForce Go 7800 series (i think) and a Intel Duo for around $1300 after savings.
