Default compaq presario 5440 ram install

my buddy has a compaq presario 5440 (old school i know) and he thinks that adding ram will speed it up... i'm pretty sure it will (he's only got 56MB now) but all the websites we go to say it requires a "specific type of ram with certain chips"... the also have to be the "exact same size, brand, and speed"

now my pos compaq 5000 series presario 5BW220 says the same thing but i looked with cpu-z and i have 2 different brands (Infineon and Kingston), running at 2 different speeds (100 and 133 MHz), and 2 different sizes (128MB and 256MB)...

my question is are these websites full of it or do they know something i don't?
