Default dual booting problems

ok...i tried searching past threads about dual booting but i didnt get my questions answered...

first, can you install two versions of windows on the same hard drive and on the same partition? i had trouble doing it because when i tried to install xp, my 2nd hard drive disappeared along with the partition. and i couldnt get partition magic to even start up... which leads me to my next question...
what is an EZDrive? when i try to use partitionmagic, it wont start up because of a corrupt EZDrive on my second hard drive, or at least i think its on my second hard drive...

as far as I know, you cannot install 2 copies of xp on the same partition, it should erase the existing one when you install the new one
