Exclamation maxtor hdd help

hi i have a abit av8 sata1 mobo
and i have a maxtor diamondmax 10 sata2 hdd
i cant get the bios to reconize the hdd windows is running on a pata drive
i think sata 2 is backward compatable with sata1 i downloaded maxblast and that cant detect a hdd please help im lost

If you can get rid of the harddrive, I would. I had the same hd as you. It lasted 6 Months and then it took a s*** on me. I bought an 80GB 3.0gb/s sata Seagate barracuda for $60.

sata2 is backwards compatible, yes. So is the drive not recognized in either bios or windows (if not in bios probably not in windows)? Have you made sure your bios is set to detect both ide and sata? If so, have you downloaded the sata drivers for your mobo off the manufacturer's website? Finally, try another sata wire

cheers for your help i have solved the problem it turns out that there is a jumper on the hdd and i had to move it so it would run as sata1 instead of sata2
