Default I need advices in buying a Desktop please

Guys, my budget range is between 2500US to 3000US. And I want to get the best Desktop possible. But I haven't shopped for desktops in many years, and I need experts' advices.

I'm buying a desktop mostly for personal use. I am planning to take a lot of computer courses. I also wanna create a home media centre in my room. I will also use it for gaming.

First of all, should I wait for Windows Vista? I heard great things about it and I heard it's coming pretty soon. You guys think I should wait for a few months?

Secondly, I don't have a TV yet in my new apartment. But since I'm trying to buy a good PC, maybe I should just get a larger monitor and use it as a TV. What do you guys think? I'm planning to buy PS3, so I need HDMI connection, but HDTV with HDMI connection can be extremely expensive. I'd rather use that money to get a better PC and monitor, with a TV tuner.

Anyway, please advice me on this. Graphics Card, CPU, monitor, etc etc. Thank you in advance.

Will you be building one, or would you prefer one pre-built?

And Vista is scheduled for release for late this year, so you should see it in store by mid 2007

I don't know how to build one. So, I guess I have no choice but to buy a pre-built PC.

Also, should I get Windows XP Media Centre Edition or Windows XP Professional?

Why is XP Pro more expensive than XP Media Centre?

Building one really isn't that hard, if you have about a week to get tips and guides ( im sure people on this forum would be glad to help ) , you will be able to build your own and get a much better deal!

For that price range you would be better off buying a pre-built one.

XP Home: Designed for the average user.
XP Media Center: Designed if you want to watch TV on your PC.
XP Pro: Designed for business's or people who require advanced networking needs.

I would really love too. But that means I gotta configure everything myself. It sounds kinda scary.
