Default uh-oh Big Problem...i think

I just got my new computer and all and was starting to transfer files over a network i created. all was going well until the old comouter froze completely, no mouse action or anything. so i did whut anybody would do...manual shutdown . heres where it starts. when it was off i pressed the on button and the green light ("on" light) starts flashing irregualry and the case is making a long beeping noise. the noise stops, and it sounds again. so i shut it off again, but rlly don't want to try again incase it really is a hardware issue that will harm the computer. is this a motherboard failure or psu or what?
