Default Just got an IBM Thinkpad T20 with Windows 2000 Should I Switch to XP for Surfing Only

Would appreciate someones advice on this I just got on Ebay from a reputable seller an IBM T20 Thinkpad which has Windows 2000, I added enough Ram to 512, 15 GB & 700MHZ. I bought this laptop only to use to surf the web from my bedroom as my excellent HP Desktop Media Center Computer (XP, 900 MHZ, 120 gigs, 1024 RAM) is in the Den 25 feet away & I'm just lazy and don't want to get out of bed just to go online at night. Anyway, as all I will be using this laptop for is the Internet & the odd Word applications, will it serve any purpose in upgrading to XP? If I was using the laptop for other things, I would upgrade immediately. Thanks for any advice.

I would keep it with Win2K, since it's a very good operating system and would work much faster than WinXP. The hardware isn't that fast, so Win2K would be perfect for it. Win2k is still the most popular OS in the world and is still supported by Microsoft. I believe it's about 48% still. I'd just keep it updated. Don't get me wrong, WinXP will still work, but it just wouldn't be as fast.

Thanks for your advice I feel better now about getting this set in Windows 2000. One other question for you. This used laptop originally came with 128 RAM. I upgraded ot for $75 more to 512 RAM because the seller said that would speed up surfing time including loading and unloading programs. As I bought this laptop just for the internet, was increasing the RAM to 512 worth it? The laptop in vert good condition and increased RAM to 512 cost me $300 with shipping (IBM Thinkpad T20, 700 Mhz, windows 2000, working battery thast takes charge, 15 gigs, DVD dribe & 512 RAN)?

i think so, for what you paid that was alright

maybe you didnt need 512 but in any case if u did eventually want to upgrade to xp the ram would come in handy. also if you want to have a few other programs running like virus scanners etc the 512 will come in handy

512 wont speed up the internet, but it will help with everything else pretty much, so it was a good idea to do that.

i would also recommend keeping 2k. its an excellent OS, and its what XP was built on anyway.
