Default Weird noises...hard drive?

OK, this is a little odd. Maybe someone else has a similar computer and can help me...

Ever since I got my compaq, I hear this odd noises from it every so often. It's kind of a buzzing sound. Ever use a Zip disk? That's almost exactly what it sounds like.

It seems like it might be the harddrive, but I don't know why it's making the noises. It's doing it now as I think. HD light's not doing a thing. Sometimes it'll last just a few seconds, sometimes nearly a minute.

The computer has never given me any errors and the noise doesn't seem to cause problems, but I like like to know what's up. Anyone have a similar computer with similar noises?

It's a compaq SR1730 with an 80G HD(Segate, SATA) It's got 1 DVD-RW, but nothing's in it so it shouldn't be making the noise. It cuts on and off to quickly to be a fan, I'd think(doesn't sound like it's spinning down or anything)

I may be completely diferent but my old Compaq made a noise like that from day one and when I finally got around to starting it up with the case opened it turned out to be the fan. It didn't do it all the time and would often go for days/weeks/months running quietly and then start up again. Everytime it quit making noise I'd have to open it up and check to see if it was still working. It ran fine for 5-6 yrs until I bought a new one and gave it to a relative. I still haven't got used to the new one being so quiet.

check for a loose fan or mobo... maybe vibrating.
