Default Maxtor 250 GB Harddrive

I've just installed a new Maxtor 250GB HDD and windows only recognizes it as a 137GB. I've updated my BIOS (it now recognizes all 250GB) and I've installed BigDriveEnabler to update Windows registry and Windows still only recognizes 137GB.

I have been told to run MaxBlast but what I don't know is will this program erase all the data on my HDD? I've only got one HDD so I've got no where to back up my data. Has anyone used MaxBlast on a drive with data?

In order to access the full capacity of your hard drive or partition larger than 137GB, you need to install Windows XP Service Pack 2.

I believe SP1 is fine too, which if you have xp, you should update to sp2 anyways, and like he said, the best option is to partition the drive, I'd use PartitionMagic if you can get it

i've had the same problem, don't worry about sp2, please goto Control panel>Administrative Tools>Computer management>Disk management the remaining drive space should be there as a black bar that needs formatting and partitioning for use.

So your saying just to just format the remaining space into another partition?
