Default buying new hard drive

I Am New To This Forum And My Question May Already Be Answered Somewhere On This Site, But I Can't Find It. I Am Shopping For A New Hard Drive And I Want To Buy One That Will Work With My Computer. I See Some That Say Sata 500, 300, Etc. Ata 100, 150, Etc. I Have An Alienware With An Athlon Xp 2000 +.the Hard Drive That It Came With Is A Seagate Barracuda 80gb St380021a. I Bought This Computer Brand New In April Of 2002. If You Need Any More Info Let Me Know. I'm Wanting To Keep The 80gb Hard Drive To Run Windows And Programs And I'm Loking At A 400gb Or 500gb Hard Drive To Store Movies Pics, And Music. Out Of Maxtor, Western Digital, And Seagate, Is One Better Than The Other, Or Is There One I Should Steer Clear From. Any Help Is Greatly Appreciated

From you hard drive you already have I have gathered you have ATA100. Now that means you need to get a hard drive that is ATA100 or higher (ATA150, ATA133). Do not get Serial ATA, also known as SATA. As for brands I like Seagate.

For a drive, you could pick from any of these. 1, 2, 3, 4,

As a side note, didnt Seagate buy out Maxtor?

Yep, your motherboard only has ATA. Feel free to choose from the drives I picked out or go hunting for your own, just remember what I told ya.
