Cool Car Sound System

I know a lot of ya'll are music fanatics and that you have a bad @$$ sound system, so I wanted to ask you guys a couple questions.

I'm hopefully going to be purchasing a new sound system for my car and I wanted to know what you guys think is a good company to buy from. I know that Bose is my favorite, but they do not manufacture sound systems for my car.

My car:
Honda Accord 99'

I want to keep my budget under $1K-$1.2K

What all do I need? Sorry, I'm such a newb at sound

If you guys could give suggestions that would be great! Thanks!

Well my favorite is www.crutchfield.com, they usually offer Free 3 Day shipping, and they also include manuals and mounting equipment for free. They also usually give you a discount if you buy parts together, such as a reciever and speakers.

I had a Power Acoustics 12 and a Power Acoustics 900 watt amp. It drew a lot of power but it hit like 2 12's of any other brand.

Also, if you plan on getting a high powered amp with high poweres subs, your going to need one or more capacitors.

One thing that makes a HUGE difference is the enclosure you have. I'm not sure the best place to find this info, but just be sure the enclosure is made for the speakers. The size, port size(if it has any), and such can really make a difference in the subs performace.

I have a pioneer head unit in my jeep which is really nice, but I also have pioneer speakers which SUCK! I know the subs are pretty bad too, so stay away from their speakers.

I didn't have one, but then agian im dumb lol. for every 1000 watts you have in your amp you should have 1 farad in your capacitor.

One of my friends had two pioneer 12's that would make your ears bleed. So maybe your just listening to there cheap speakers. My friends could vibrate the back of your throat so hard you would want to throw up.

And I know someone who had a single 10" that'd do just that... Well, I've blown 4 pioneer speakers which handle 25/100 watts and my stereo is 22/45 per channel, so I shouldn't be able to blow them...plus they sound pretty crummy to be as expensive as they were...

As for the sub...my friend had a single 10" if I remember, and it sounded pretty bad. I beleive he had two but blew one of them... I don't remember exactly, but just that he didn't like them.

alrighty, I had a nice stup in my old car, but I sold it when I got a truck . Anyways, get a head unit with higher voltage rca outputs, like in the 2.5 to 5v range, it'll make turning up the music all the easier. Anyways, I absolutely loved Infinity and all my speakers were Kappa's. I had 2 pairs of 4 inch kappas in the front (issue with fitting, woulda gotten one pair of something bigger if it woulda fit), and a pair of kappa 5x7's in the back (again woulda got 6x9's if they woulda fit). I had a 1000 watt Boss amp on them. My subs were two Kappa Perfect 12 inchers in a bandpass box, and I had a 1600 watt Boss amp and a capacitor. As far as Boss, I was impressed by them, they had a high SPL and were inexpensive, so give them a lookse, better than spending $800 on a fosgate. You will want a capacitor if you're using 1000 watts or more, they really do make a difference, plus you can turn up the voltage on them, which is nice. Like I said, I loved Kappas, but they are expensive, so maybe they're not the best option. But do yourself a favor and get some sort of aluminum cone on your subs, the paper and 'ceramic' ones suck and you'll blow them within two years. I installed all my stuff myself, which if you are somewhat comfortable doing, I'd suggest it cause it was a really good learning experience. And feel free to PM me about anything in particular, I really like this kind of thing
