Default speed up laptop

hey anyone know how i can speed up my mums laptop
is got 512 mb ram 20 gig drive but running slow

What's the processor and make/model of her laptop? There are other factors involved in determining speed.

Its a compaq armada m700 p3 800 mhz
i just got the same type my self, waiting for it in the mail

I'd check out the max RAM specs and see how much more you can add. You can also try getting a faster HD, but after all the upgrades, you could've just bought a newer and more up to date laptop.

My parents have the Armada M500, pretty much the same laptop. I think the max is 512mb, but im not sure.

Thanks laptopExtreme, its really well looked after and software wise, and she really likes it, its running xp pro and all her stuff is on it , so i will order a 60gig
7200rpm drive and 1 gig ram

yeh i went on a website (can't remember the name) and typed in the specs and it said a 1 gig, ill have to look on the compaq website.

I believe it came in a 1Ghz version, but like Helmie said, I think 512mb is it's max also. I've checked the Kingston memory configurator and it tells me the same.

yeh, i think on a corsair web site i just looked at it said 576mb
ok i think ill just get a 60 gig hdd
