Hey
Im looking to setup a network that will have my destop pc(when its all together) in my room with my printer, and my laptop in the shop's office (more like junk stroage it seems) my problem in that the shop is just over ~300 feet away from the house i have a netgear router (forget the model and its down in the shop so i'm not going to get it tonight lol) will i be able to run CAT5E that far without degridation(sp?)? i was planing to put the modem and router in the basement, run a wire up to my room and a wire out to the shop (have to burry a water line anyways) then use a wireless to "free up" the laptop of wires or even better whats the range on the wireless stuff ? (allthough the shop has 18 florecent lights ( 36, 48" tubes) any ideas or thoughts? Thanks Joe EDIT: I just mesured and its a 370 foot run from the basement to the shop so that would make the cable run just about 400 feet

Most consumer versions of wireless router will not go out over 300 feet. Just being inside a house you cut down on range when you go through floors and walls. Hope this helps.
