Smile computer freezes up during bootup

Hi,

My computer sometimes freezes up during bootup. It mostly happens first thing in the morning after it has been sitting all night. I did work with Dell tech support to network with another computer. We went through all kinds of steps, but could never complete the process because my computer was set up on the wrong file system. FAT 32 instead of NTFS. It is when I converted to the NTFS file system that my computer started doing this. Could it have anything to do with the networking that was never really finished. I would like to reverse whatever steps were taken to start the networking. I have tried Dell again a few times, but have yet to get anyone who can speak English well enough to understand. Any help would be appreciated. If you need more info from me let me know.

Thanks

If you have xp, boot from the XP CD and get into recovery console and run chkdsk.

Hi,

I don't actually have the cd. The company I bought the computer from doesn't ship the cd with the computer (not sure why). I guess I'll have to request it. Is there another way to run chkdsk without the cd? Is this the same thing as scan disc with Windows 98?

HI I think the only thing we were doing was networking the compurters to share a printer. I don't believe they had me do anything else.

Thanks

You can use chkdsk as soon as u can boot, having a CD only gives u a better chance of booting if stuff gets messy Just goto a console screen or run-line and type chkdsk
