Default Problems connecting HP laptop with TV

Hi everybody!
So, I got a HP compaq nx9010 laptop with a ATI Radeon IGP 345M videocard..
I tried to link my laptop to the TV with a video out cable, this worked. I got perfect sound, but there were no colors, the screen was black/white.
I've been searching for a solution for a while now.. I found out that a lot of people experienced this problem, and a lot of websites say it might have something to do with the NTSC/PAL settings. I'm Dutch, so my laptop is automatically set to PAL, which seemed to be right, according to what I read on the web.

Then, some guys who worked at a computershop, told me to update my HP drivers, and I did. Still the same problem.

I thought it might be a smart idea to just ask for help myself, and I hope someone here has the answer!

you sure it's analog video and not component? That could be your problem. And do you have s-video that you could try?

If it was set to NTSC, you'd get more than just black and white. NTSC is a lower resolution and higher frame rate...

Do you have some sort of Svideo to RCA converter? I know if there's a short in the Svideo cable or you're using a bad converter, you can get black and white. Seeing as RCA is just two connections, if your lappy has an RCA out on the back then it should work or not work... That is unless there some hardware or driver problem.

yep, I got a svideo to RCA, it looks like this one:

It's got 7 pins..
I've tried 3 different RCA cables, and I don't think they're all broken.
I'll see if I can get another converter, maybe that'll do it

You'll need a better/newer cable. I've seen this many of times, but it's due to some cheapie cable. Usually when you buy a laptop or video card with an S-Video port, they usually come with an S-Video cable along with it. Some times even if you've got some junkie ones lying around, you may get a picture, but just not in color.

I went to a computershop today to get a new cable, but a guy there told me there can't be anything wrong with the cable. Some guys at another shop told me the same.
I should believe it, but still, I think it couldn't hurt to try a new cable.

[edit:] I just found that out our widescreen tv has a s-video as well as a composite connector. My own tv doesn't have an s-video connector, but that doesn't really matter. My tv is really old, so I doubt it would have worked anyways.
But I'm going to buy a regular S-video cable, and try it out on the big one.. let's hope it works
