Default Notebook hdd swap help

Hey all I have a dell inspiron 8600 with a 40 gb hdd right now and I want to swap it with a western digital 80 gb 5400rpm with a 8mb buffer. I was wondering if there was some sort of software that I need in order to copy everything from my old hdd, os included, over to my new one? Thanks for any info in advance!

Hi, recently done almost the same thing. What you will need is a desktop PC and an HDD converter cable (you can pick one of these up from ebay for about a fiver). What this cable enables you to do is plug in your laptop HDD to the desktops motherboard. Copy all data from old HDD on to the Desktop PCs HDD. Plug in the new laptop HDD then copy all data on to it from the desktop PCs HDD. (Be sure to format the new HDD first). Hope that this helps.
