Nero is pretty much the standard. If you don't like the technical side of things Nero Express is part of Nero and is comparable to the foolproof products like Roxio/Sonic. A lot of burning programs are bundled into video editing packages like MyDVD etc. Nero is purely a burning application although it now includes Nero Vision, a dvd authoring app.

Nero is not cheap so if you want to play around with video and/or dvds, then products such as Sonic MyDVD, Ulead VideoStudio, Pinnacle Studio etc may be better value for money. They can also do audio, data and backup dvds (and cds) like Nero.

There is freeware available but not all in one application and nowhere as easy to use as the commercial packages.
