I can't get Real Play and Windows Media to play... but the audio works...

Ok, I was given a file from a friend to play on my lap but for some reason only the audio plays. Is there something that I need to download for the video to play right? Whenever I open it with Windows Media or Real Player it's just a black screen.

i think you need the codec thing, because that's happened to me also. like it's a video, but it plays as a audio file.

Try opening it with DivX player. 99% certain that should sort it out as ive seen this many times.

nooooo! go to www.download.com and go to search and type in realplayer 10 and download it from there. It works, If not I'll help you only if you pm me and leave me your msn.
