Default How does one get the Pentium M or Core Duo into a desktop?

I know that you have to get a special adaptor from Asus to use the Pentium M, but what about the Core Duo? Newegg says they are socket 478, so will it work in a 478 motherboard?

I heard that they wouldn't work in a socket 478 mobo because of non compatibility issues.

No, newegg is wrong, its socket 479, not 478. You need an adopter module made by ASUS for it to work with certain socket 478 boards, and that just works with pentium M. All the socket 479 boards on newegg are also only for pentium M, there are no yonah (core duo) boards out yet.

Oh thanks for that, i thought they were socket 478 since thats what it says on newegg. But now that i look at the motherboards it does say 479.

The new line of processors (CORE) will be out in the near future. intel is changing their naming scheme to the Core Duo, Core Mobile, etc. If you want the current Dual core pocessor for desktops it's the Pentium D line. 950, being the most current.
