Question wireless adapter in basement

is it possible for me to connect a wireless (netgear) usb adapter to a desktop in my basement to pick up my wireless signal from my modem in my upstairs room about 40 ft in the other direction. in other words on the other side of the house and upstairs. will the signal travel down?

Wirless routers should have a range about 200Feet or so, so you should be in the clear.

ya it should work just fine. I have the exact opposite in my network. The router is in the basement, and the desktop is upstairs, but ya it should work just fine.

there is a speed drop of with increasing range, which may be a consideration depending on what you are doing. Also think wall impact performance, and foundations are normally uber thick. Its not an arrrangement i would rely on
