Default Acer Laptop?...AMD or Intel?

Ok ok its another one of these questions, but I couldnt find anything specific when I searched. I am going to college and I need something that will be good to carry around, run some 3D programs (Autocad) and 2D rendering (photoshop), and be reliable. I found the Acer Ferrari and Acer TravelMate 8200. My neighbor said that Acer is an old brand and I shouldn't get one. On the other hand, they seem like the best deal.

So my question is, do I get the Ferrari with the amd turion 64 2.2ghz, or the intel core duo 2.0ghz. I dont play any super intense games.

Also, Does anyone have any experience with Acer? If Acer isn't the best choice for quality/performance, I might consider a ______________ ?

Thanks a lot

Acer makes great laptops. I'm not sure what he meant by "old brand" they're always coming out with new models. If I were you I would take the core duo, you'll see alot of benefits from dual core in those aplications.

hand down the core duo, it will run rings around the turion in the apps listed

As for the brand acer. They are fine

Alright thanks for the info guys. I'm not going to major in any arts, I just like to do that on the side, I am going to major in Computer Hardware engineering or mechanical engineering.

It seems the consensus says Acer is a good brand, but I read a review that the screen flexes and light comes around the edges. Has anyone heard of this?

sorry about not answering your question and asking my own but I found a review about the laptop you were asking about here www.notebookreview.com . they have an article somewhere about the Acer laptop I'm sure that should answer all your questions.
