I just tried to put in a 1.3GHz Celeron on a old PC that had a 700MHz Celeron. When I put it in and turned on the computer it wouldn't start at all. The power light in the front which is green when it's turned on and off when its turned off was yellow, that's about all I got to go on. After returning the original processor, it booted up fine. Any Ideas?
Thanks, John

Well I think many old motherboards required people to set jumpers on the motherboard for the processors they wanted to install. I know of at least one case when that was so. Check for that.

I'll check into that, but also some relevant info might be the fact that it is a Dell. Does that change anything?

What board is it? Might be that it just can't take the strain!

It's A Dell Optiplex GX150, and I know for a fact that it can handle up to a 1.4GHz Celeron, I'm trying to use a 1.3GHz Celeron

Have you tried updating to the latest BIOS...only thing I can think of at the time. Make sure the CPU is seated properly. Ummm, bad CPU, idk. I know the system sends a charge to a wire on the CPU and then the POST begins then on from there if you haven't gotten to that point, I guess it could be a bad CPU. If your getting the orange/yellow instead of green it may be some kind of warning or signal of error.

Ok, when I first tried, The BIOS wasn't updated. But after it was mentioned I updated the BIOS to the latest and still no results. I bought the processor from Ku-Sama here and he said it worked and I have no reason not to believe him, so I don't think that it's broken. Any Other Ideas???
