Question Laptop Clean up

Dear Computer Savvy Friends,
Hi, My name is Raj. I have an HP DV4232E Series Laptop. Its a Centrino Processor. I have few questions to ask you guys.

1) There are two alt buttons on the laptop keyboard. One is a normal Alt and another one is Alt gr. I want to know what does the latter do. What is the purpose of the button.

2) I want to enhance my laptop with different laptop softwares, but not on the risk of making the laptop slow. Is there any way I can simply enhance my RAM Power. I have a 512 MB RAM. I even have 80 GB HDD.

3) If I need to divide my single HDD into two or three drives, to have a provision of backup, if ever I need to format my Laptop. Please can someone please guide me through that????

I would be waiting for your reply..
Raj..

1) The key says Alt gr?

2) More RAM couldn't hurt, but as long as you have 512M, it should be about it's peak performace... You might be able to free up some reasources, though, but closing un-needed programs running the the backgound...

Of course, if you add a new harddrive, that will require you reload the whole machine. However, this could possible provide the largest speed increase, if you get a drive that spins very fast... Most laptops just have 4200RPM drives, some 5200. Get yourself a 7200RPM drive and it should load things much faster. But, this will also cause the battery life to be much less...

3) Look around for partitioning software on this site. I know someone posted a list of freeware partitioning programs a while back. Find one you like, then look for a guide or ask directly about the program. It's quite easy,really...
