How does WiFi work??

I'm not sure how it all works, so please bare with me..lol. I just bought a laptop with an Internal Dell Wireless G 1350 card, do I need a different wireless card to access hotspots?

To create a wifi hotspot in my home, I just have to buy a wireless access point router...right? Do I need to have any specific modems or programs on my computer to get it working?

Are those the only things I need to get online wirelessly? Do I need broadband, DSL, a dial up connection, etc?

no, just a broadband internet connection.

you just need a broadband internet connection, such as cable, dsl, etc.
