Default Please Help!! PC wont boot up

Hello,
I have an advent desktop computer, approx 2 years old, model number: 3209Running XP Home.

A week ago, windows started up, then locked and froze after a minute of use.
Nothing could be done with it except for pushing the off button on the machine and trying to reboot, same thing happened for a few times and now it wont boot up at all.

The error that is comming up when turning the computer on is:

Verifying DMI Pool Data .........
Boot From CD:
Boot From CD:

A disk read error occured
Pres Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart
_

It will not go any further than that. keeps not booting up.

There are no disks in the drives. I have the disks that were shipped with the pc (windows xp) but this only offers me the opportunity to completely re-install windows and I need to try and get info off my drives first.

Any information at all on how to boot up and get some into off the drive would be very much appreciated.
Please help, I do not know where else to ask... please???

Thank you,
Sincerely,
Allan

make sure your bios has the boot device as the " c" drive
the hd could be bad

oh i just saw the part, you said no disks in the drives,,, check the bios, other than that a new hd
