Default DNS troubles?

I'm not really sure if this is the problem or what, but I've recently had problems with my internet. Being on campus(we have RoadRunner) I probably should contact the ITCS people here rather than TimeWarner myself, but first I would like to get some ideas...

Basically, some sites just plain won't load. They will work fine then an hour later or something they won't work. The site IS NOT down because I can find a proxy server and connect to the site though that... Typically, they are the same sites(this place being one of them...)

My setup is fairly simple. I have a router here but only my one laptop. I wanted the router for a little added security(firewall) I guess if noone has any suggestions, I'll remove it and see if it helps, but the problem didn't use to occure even with the router connected...
