Default mic sound out of speakers

I was having trouble getting my microphone to work so I just turned up all the volumes on the C-Media Mixer control panel and now the microphone sound comes out of the speakers constantly. I tried using windows xp sound recorder but it did not pick up anything. I tested the voice hardware in control panel -> sounds and audio devices-> voice tab and it picks the mic up ok.

Does anybody know how i can stop the microphone sound coming out of the speakers constantly?

go to the little speaker down at the bottom right and go to the microphone part and hit mute on it.... if you use it on yahoo or msn or something like that, its not really muted... its just muted where it dont make that sound on your computer
