Angry Internet slow problems

Hi there,

I got problems.
For the past few weeks my comp has been realy slow when loading any internet pages whatsoever.

I have scanned my comp for viruses and stuff but found nothing.
So i just decided to do a Destructive system recovery using my Hp recovery disk and then for a few days after recovery it started going slow again

I also have the problem some with pages saying-
Quote:
Error sending request
The operation timed out.
And some pages just dont load at all

I havnt made any changes to my firewall (ZoneAlarm Security suite) and im using i am using Firefox 1.5.0.1.

You're not running any P2P programs while surfing, are you? If they're using your entire upload bandwidth (not difficult on most cable plans), that can cause the symptoms you're describing. If so, restrict the max upload speed in the program, or turn it off entirely.

Only thing I can think of is update your drivers and also check your configuration...the two settings that will effect your speed the most is your tcpip recieve window and mtu! download this program. http://www.speedguide.net/downloads.php your tcpip window should be 256960 and your mtu should be 1500 if you select optimal settings at the bottom and apply changes this program will do it for you. If that dont fix the problem then I would suspect your isp its self.

Hi,

Thanks for the link,I downloaded it and set it to optimal settings and it asked if i wanted to restart for changes to take effect so i did.
But still its slow and some pages dont load

I contacted My isp today and they had a look at my connection status and stuff over their end but they said everything was ok there.

I just dont know whats wrong,Its never been like this before.

Try rebooting your modem, also see if you can get another computer in there to hook up to your internet connection to rule out a computer problem.

Also post a hijackthis log here so I can take a look and see if you have somekind of nasty spyware or virus slowing you down.

Download hijackthis here http://www.majorgeeks.com/download3155.html

Have you tried to disable your firewall and see if thats what is slowing you down? Actually now that I look back at your post I kinda suspect a virus or trojan slowing you down because you said speed was fine until a couple of days after reformat.
